Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Identify common composite materials by their principal properties
  • Identify the principal properties of composite resins, reinforcing and core materials
  • Identify the effects of different types of bonding in composite materials
  • Identify the effects of mechanical and thermal processes on the principal properties of composite materials
  • Identify common failures of composite materials and relationship to manufacturing errors, wear and usage
  • Identify the effects of different types of reinforcing and core materials in composite materials

Element: Determine requirements for composite materials selection
  • Review design specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions for composite material function, performance, commercial and environmental parameters
  • Review reference information for relevant data on composite parameters
  • Prepare list of constraints and objectives for composite material selection
  • Identify any requirement for expert technical or professional assistance

Element: Select composite materials for specific manufacturing and engineering related applications
  • Determine the least constrained composite materials for the requirement
  • Select potential composite material based on the requirement and consideration of principal properties and further processing
  • Arrange appropriate tests to confirm suitability of selected composite materials
  • Review test results and use the information in the selection process
  • Confirm selection according to standard operating procedures
  • Produce composite materials selection report including traceability records for material selection process, recommendations, and supporting data

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
